GAME PLAY THERAPY

Therapeutic board games have become increasingly popular tools used in Play Therapy with elementary school children and adolescents.  Through lecture and play simulations, participants will become familiar with games designed to promote problem-solving, self expression,
communication, reality testing, and socialization. A variety of therapeutic board games, card games, video games, action-oriented games, and fine-motor games will be presented. 

Learning Objectives:

1. List sites where Game Play Therapy should be used
2. Name the make-up groups to use game play
3. Create their own board game to use with a specific child
4. List some of the psychological characteristics you can see in game play
5. Understand why it is important to know a game well enough to win or lose at will

INSTRUCTOR: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S is a licensed clinical psychologist and registered play therapist-supervisor.  She is in private practice in Monroe Twp.,  New Jersey.   She has lectured throughout the world on the assessment and treatment of Attention - Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder and Play Therapy. She has conducted research studies on the effectiveness of diverse treatment approaches for this childhood disorder.  Dr. Kaduson is director of the Play Therapy Training Institute and past president/ board member of the Association for Play Therapy.  She is author and co-editor of books entitled The Playing Cure, 101 Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, 101 More Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, The Quotable Play Therapist, and Short-Term Play Therapy For Children.
