PLAY DIAGNOSIS AND ASSESSMENT

The growing field of Play Diagnosis and
Assessment provides many formal as well as informal techniques which facilitate the
identified childs ability to participate in the evaluation process. The goal
of this seminar is to present a general overview of the field. The seminar will
include a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of Play Assessment and will
survey a variety of Play Techniques and Scales which can enhance the assessment of
children and their families. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the
participants with some of the available alternative procedures for gleaning information
through Play Behaviors. Although a few methods will be highlighted in some
detail, most will be generally reviewed with regard to their purpose and potential
usages.
INSTRUCTOR: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S is a licensed clinical psychologist and
registered play therapist-supervisor. She is in private practice in Monroe
Twp., New Jersey.
She has lectured throughout the world on the assessment and treatment of Attention
- Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder and Play Therapy. She has conducted research studies on
the effectiveness of diverse treatment approaches for this childhood disorder. Dr.
Kaduson is director of the Play Therapy Training Institute and past
president/ board
member of the Association for Play Therapy. She is author and co-editor of books
entitled The Playing Cure, 101 Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, 101 More Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, The
Quotable Play Therapist, and Short-Term Play Therapy For Children.
