Seminar #118
ART THERAPY INTERVENTIONS FOR PLAY THERAPISTS
Instructor: Elizabeth Couturier, M.A.
Sunday July 18, 2010 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Credits 6.0

While artwork is often spontaneous in play therapy, this workshop will help facilitate the playfulness in play therapy and art.  Fine motor skills or pressure to write often delays a child’ creative ability, but through the art techniques presented, the presenter will show how play therapy can incorporate art to facilitate the healing process., Participants should come prepared to experience and use “messy” play to help in treatment.  Illustrations will be proved as well.

Learning Objectives: Participants will:

1.             Learn how art therapy enhances play therapy in individual and group sessions.

2.            Understand the theories of art therapy and how they compliment play therapy.

3.            Use several art techniques to enhance the verbalization of feelings for children and adolescents.

4.            Share experiences of several techniques and learn how to accomplish the same with children.

5.            Know how color works to help children open up and feel the therapeutic value of art.

INSTRUCTOR: Elizabeth Couturier, M.A. is a graduate from the George Washington University Art Therapy Program with experience in a variety of treatment settings including inpatient hospital programs, elementary schools, outpatient military hospital programs, and private practice.
