Instructor: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S
Friday July 18, 2008 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Credits 6.0
Adjustment and anxiety problems stemming from perfectionism
have been more widely identified in the past decade by clinicians and
researches. Perfectionist children can be depressed, anxious, rigid, afraid of
making decisions or taking risks, obsessive or compulsive and they may
experience difficulties in their school performance and in their relationships.
This workshop will describe the nature of perfectionism in children, identify
positive and negative features of the trait, and discuss a variety of possible
causes. The workshop will give participants a wide range of play therapy methods
which can improve adjustment for perfectionistic children and their families at
school and home. Hands on approaches will be illustrated with many case
examples, and participants will have an opportunity to discuss the use of play
therapy with their own cases. The integration of play therapy with other
treatments will also be covered.
