Instructors: David A. Crenshaw, Ph.D., ABPP, RPT-S
Tuesday July 21, 2009 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Credits 6.0

Play therapists regardless of theoretical orientation face the challenge of engaging a significant portion of children and adolescents who for multiple reasons don't easily or naturally enter into the therapy process.  This course will focus on creating "portals of entry" into the hearts and minds of children and teens to create meaningful exchange in therapy utilizing drawings, stories, directed symbolic play, and clinical use of symbols.  The specific techniques will be illustrated and in some cases practiced by the participants.  This workshop will be of interest to play therapists of all levels of experience.

INSTRUCTOR: David A. Crenshaw, Ph.D., ABPP, RPT-S is Director and Founder of the Rhinebeck Child and Family Center, LLC.  He is past President of the New York Association for Play Therapy.  He is co-author with John B. Mordock of A Handbook of Play Therapy with Aggressive Children, and Understanding and Treating the Aggression of Children: Fawns in Gorilla Suits.  He is author of Evocative Strategies in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Therapeutic Engagement of Children and Adolescents: Play, Symbol, Drawing and Storytelling Strategies; editor of Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy: Wounded Spirits and Healing Paths, and the forthcoming book: Reverence in Healing: Honoring Strengths without Trivializing Suffering.
