DYNAMIC FAMILY PLAY PRESENTATION
Instructor: Steve Harvey, Ph.D., RPT-S ADTR, RDT
Friday July 11, 2008 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Credits 6.0

Dynamic play is an intervention style in which various family members actively participate in expressive play activities together.  Such play consists of collaborative art, movement, drama, storytelling, and video making designed to address both presenting problems as well as core conflicts among family members.  Verbal discussion about current interactions and emotional events that have impacted family life is intergraded with play episodes.  The overriding goal  of these activities is to help family members bring more of their naturally occurring creativity into their day to day activities and use their play to develop metaphors that are meaningful, emotionally significant, and contribute to conflict resolution.  Dynamic Play Therapy is particularly useful in helping families address family attachment and the psychological trauma of  younger children.  There will be several experiential pieces to the presentation, as well as video to illustrate the methods and techniques.

Instructor: Steve Harvey, Ph.D., RPT-S ADTR, RDT is currently working as the Consultant Psychologist with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in New Plymouth, New Zealand.  Previously he worked as a Child Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Colorado, USA.  Prior to becoming involved in the mental health profession, Steve was active in improvisational dramatic/dance performance, and continues to practice Physical Storytelling.  Besides being a clinical and educational psychologist, Steve is registered with the American Dance, Drama, and Play Therapy Associations and has been an active contributor in the integration of all expressive modalities in Play Therapy.  Steve helped pioneer the field of family play therapy and has published many chapters on the topic in mayor play therapy texts, as well as in publications by the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations.  He has lead workshops in family play therapy internationally for the last twenty years.
