THERAPY WITH ADULTS Adults as well as children have experiences which are very difficult in words. The expressive modalities of movement, art, drama, and story telling can be used in the therapy with adults as an addition to more verbal forms as well as independent methods to facilitate creativity, metaphor making, and playfulness. Such techniques can be used in work with individuals, couples, and to facilitate parenting in all family situations. This workshop will familiarize participants with several ways of using both structured as well as more improvised play therapy experiences in working with adults. Emphasis on using playful interaction within such activity will be incorporated. The workshop will use directed experiences, seminar, and case presentations. Material presented in "Play Therapy with Adults", edited by Charles Schaefer will be use as background. Instructor: Steve Harvey, Ph.D., RPT-S ADTR, RDT is currently working as the Consultant Psychologist with the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Previously he worked as a Child Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Colorado, USA. Prior to becoming involved in the mental health profession, Steve was active in improvisational dramatic/dance performance, and continues to practice Physical Storytelling. Besides being a clinical and educational psychologist, Steve is registered with the American Dance, Drama, and Play Therapy Associations and has been an active contributor in the integration of all expressive modalities in Play Therapy. Steve helped pioneer the field of family play therapy and has published many chapters on the topic in mayor play therapy texts, as well as in publications by the American Psychological and American Psychiatric Associations. He has lead workshops in family play therapy internationally for the last twenty years. Saturday July 12, 2008 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. |
