SKILLS AND ISSUES IN PLAY THERAPY SUPERVISION
Instructor:

To ensure the highest quality of professional services, play therapists need effective supervision (or case consultation). Objective feedback and guidance from an experienced play therapist fosters the professional development of the less experienced play therapist and helps to ensure that the public is well-served. Many complex issues arise in the practice of play therapy that range from complicated clinical situations to ethical dilemmas to legal issues. It is of utmost importance that play therapists learn to use supervision effectively and that the supervisor remain educated him/herself in order to provide state-of-the-art supervision or case consultation. To ensure this, the Association for Play Therapy now requires Registered Play Therapist-Supervisors to obtain supervision training, a requirement that is met through this workshop.

This workshop explores the many dilemmas faced by play therapy supervisees and their supervisors. It helps professionals develop the skills needed for effective supervision and provides a model for both supervisees and supervisors to make supervision or case consultation work effectively. The training presents an interactive model of supervision, highlights ways to formulate complex cases, and shows supervisors and their supervisees how to practice effective risk management. The workshop includes lecture, case studies, group interactions, and role-played examples.
