SAND TRAY PLAY THERAPY - ADLERIAN STYLE

Participants will be introduced to a method of integrating the concepts and techniques of Individual Psychology into the practice of sand tray play therapy. The presenter will explain and demonstrate the techniques used in Adlerian sand tray play therapy to establish a relationship with the child, explore the child’s life-style, help the child gain insight into his or her life-style, reorient and reeducate the child, and consult with parents. Dress comfortably and be prepared to play in the sand.

Use sand tray play therapy to build egalitarian relationships with clients

Use sand tray play therapy to explore client lifestyles

Use sand tray play therapy to help clients gain insight into their lifestyles

Use sand tray play therapy to teach new skills, behaviors, and attitudes

Work with parents and teachers

INSTRUCTOR: Terry Kottman, Ph.D., NCC, LMHC, RPT-S 

Dr. Kottman developed Adlerian play therapy, a technique that combines the ideas and techniques of Individual Psychology and play therapy. She regularly presents workshops on play therapy, activity-based therapy and school counseling. Dr. Kottman is the author of Partners in Play: An Adlerian Approach to Play Therapy and Play Therapy: Basics and Beyond, co-author of Guidance and Counseling in the Elementary and Middle Schools, and co-editor (with Dr. Charles Schaefer) of Play Therapy in Action: A Casebook for Practitioners.
