THEMATIC PLAY THERAPY: UNDERSTANDING AND RESPONDING TO PLAY THEMES

Tuesday July 29, 2008 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.


This workshop will focus on the common play themes presented by various children in play therapy, the children's expressions, and the possible meanings of the themes to the children.  Participants will learn to effectively respond to the themes following different theoretical orientations.  A background in basic theoretical play therapy will be expected prior to taking this class.  There will be DVD presentations illustrating different ages and different issues presented by children.  Some experiential work will also be done in small group.   

INSTRUCTOR: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S is a licensed clinical psychologist and registered play therapist-supervisor.  She is in private practice in Monroe Twp.,  New Jersey.   She has lectured throughout the world on the assessment and treatment of Attention - Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder and Play Therapy. She has conducted research studies on the effectiveness of diverse treatment approaches for this childhood disorder.  Dr. Kaduson is director of the Play Therapy Training Institute and past president/ board member of the Association for Play Therapy.  She is author and co-editor of books entitled The Playing Cure, 101 Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, 101 More Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, The Quotable Play Therapist, and Short-Term Play Therapy For Children.
