#294 A brief review of the theoretical and research foundations of the strategies with this challenging clinical population will be offered and followed by a description of specific techniques including the use of spontaneous drawings as a bridge to fantasy play; specific drawing techniques to create access to the inner world of children; how to teach and model pro-social skills and the language of feelings; how to facilitate affect expression and modulation, contained reenactment of trauma, and children's ability to mourn tangible as well as intangible, unacknowledged and invisible losses. In addition, interventions with trauma issues and techniques to facilitate termination will be explored. Experiential exercises focused on difficult issues with these youngsters will be interspersed throughout the day. INSTRUCTOR: David A. Crenshaw, Ph.D., ABPP, RPT-S is Founder of the Rhinebeck Child and Family Center, LLC in Rhinebeck, NY. He is the co-author with John B. Mordock of two books: A Handbook of Play Therapy with Aggressive Children and Understanding and Treating the Aggression of Children: Fawns in Gorilla Suits. Dr. Crenshaw is also the author of Evocative Strategies in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Therapeutic Engagement with Children and Adolescents: Play, Symbol, Drawing, and Storytelling Strategies.
