| Seminar #106 Child-Centered Play Therapy has been shown from over 50 years of experience and research to be a very effective approach for helping children. The skills of CCPT are useful when conducting other types of play therapy as well. In CCPT, the therapist creates a nonjudgmental atmosphere with clear boundaries in which children can feel safe to express their feelings, identities and struggles. The therapeutic environment also facilitates children’s development of mastery, coping and problem-solving skills. This course covers the rationale, skills, methods and applications of CCPT. The workshop will include videos, skills training and discussions of the wide applicability of CCPT, including its use in a short-term format. Identification and understanding of play themes are also covered. Learning Objectives: 1. Describe the underlying principals of Child-Centered Play Therapy INSTRUCTOR: Harry Allen M.A., is a therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience in a wide variety of treatment settings including pre-schools, partial hospital programs, outpatient clinics, private practice, and home based services. He has worked extensively using Child Centered Play Therapy and Filial Therapy with children across a wide diagnostic spectrum. Harry has done presentations and trainings on Child Centered Play Therapy and Filial Therapy at the Parent Education Institute of Pennsylvania, Willow Grove Naval Air Base, Play Therapy Training Institute, and a variety of other human services agencies. He remains inspired by positive and dramatic impact Child Centered Play Therapy has on improving the relationships between children and their own unique life experiences.
