PLAY THERAPY FOR PERVASIVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS (AUTISM, PDD, ASPERGERS)

This workshop will focus on the different types of play therapy approaches used with children on the autistic spectrum, including pervasive developmental disorder and Asperger’s Syndrom. Some background will be covered regarding children with these disorders. The main focus of this day will be on play therapy techniques and case studies which illustrate how to connect with these children, teach them socially appropriate ways of functioning, and help them to fit in the mainstream of school. Case examples will be illustrated by video presentation.

INSTRUCTOR: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S is a licensed clinical psychologist and registered play therapist-supervisor.  She is in private practice in Monroe Twp.,  New Jersey.   She has lectured throughout the world on the assessment and treatment of Attention - Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder and Play Therapy. She has conducted research studies on the effectiveness of diverse treatment approaches for this childhood disorder.  Dr. Kaduson is co-director of the Play Therapy Training Institute and past president/ board member of the Association for Play Therapy.  She is author and co-editor of books entitled The Playing Cure, 101 Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, 101 More Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, The Quotable Play Therapist, and Short-Term Play Therapy For Children.
