Seminar #296
PLAY THERAPY FOR CHILDREN WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES
INSTRUCTOR: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S
Sunday April 19, 2009 - 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

There are many types of learning disabilities, and as a play therapist we meet extraordinary children with difficulties in verbal expression, processing, etc.  Play therapy, therefore, becomes the treatment of choice.  Through play, children can express themselves without language, and without feeling the pressure to get it right. This seminar will familiarize the therapist with several of the learning disabilities and how to broadly assess the same so that the child can get the academic help needed.  In addition, and more importantly, the course will go over different types of play therapy to use for children with learning disabilities, who are also experiencing sadness, anxiety, confusion, loss, etc.  There will be several experiential pieces to the presentation, as well as videos to illustrate the methods and techniques.

INSTRUCTOR: Heidi Kaduson, Ph.D., RPT-S is a licensed clinical psychologist and registered play therapist-supervisor.  She is in private practice in Monroe Twp.,  New Jersey.   She has lectured throughout the world on the assessment and treatment of Attention - Deficit - Hyperactivity Disorder and Play Therapy. She has conducted research studies on the effectiveness of diverse treatment approaches for this childhood disorder.  Dr. Kaduson is co-director of the Play Therapy Training Institute and past president/board member of the Association for Play Therapy.  She is author and co-editor of books entitled The Playing Cure, 101 Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, 101 More Favorite Play Therapy Techniques, The Quotable Play Therapist, and Short-Term Play Therapy For Children.
