Description:
Child-Centered Play Therapy has been shown from over 50 years of experience and research to be a very effective approach for helping children. The skills of CCPT are useful when conducing other types of play therapy as well. In CCPT, the therapist creates a nonjudgmental atmosphere with clear boundaries in which children can feel safe to express their feelings, identities and struggles. The therapeutic environment also facilitates children’s development of mastery, coping, and problem-solving skills. This course covers the rationale, skills, methods, and applications of CCPT. The workshop will include videos, skills-training, and discussions of the wide applicability of CCPT, including its use in a short-term format. Identification and understanding of play themes are also covered. This is a core course.
