Therapeutic board games have become increasingly popular tools used in Play Therapy with elementary school children and adolescents. Through lecture and play simulations, participants will become familiar with games designed to promote problem-solving, self expression, communication, reality testing, and socialization. A variety of therapeutic board games, card games, video games, action-oriented games, and fine-motor games will be presented.
Course Objectives:

- Understand how Game Play Therapy can be beneficial
- Name the make-up groups to use game play
- Create their own board game to use with a specific child in Play Therapy
- List some of the psychological characteristics you can see in game play therapy
- Understand why it is important to know a game well enough to win or lose at will when using games in play therapy
