Description:
Trauma and attachment have been major focuses in our field of child, adolescent, and family play therapy in recent years. However, two areas often overlooked or minimized are the sociocultural view of how historical oppression and cultural resilience have impacted the healing process with children, adolescents, and families. Utilizing the resiliency-focused principles of Milton H. Erickson, Transcultural teachings, and elements of the StoryPlay® model, this play therapy webinar will provide participants with a socio-cultural lens through which to expand their ability to develop and utilize culturally respectful metaphors and creativity into their play therapy practice. Through individual and group exercises along with discussions and case examples, participants will explore their own beliefs, spirituality, cultures of origin, stories, and traditions, and how they impact their work as play therapists.
