Are you feeling confused, and nervous about what to do in a family play therapy session? Come join us and learn creative attachment-based interventions when working with families and the child-parent relationship in play therapy. Learn how to work with families in the moment of their dysregulation and gain knowledge on how the family play sessions can be both structured and spontaneous. This workshop is rooted in the therapeutic powers of play, mindfulness, attachment and interpersonal neurobiology. When clinicians work within the family system the family often feels seen and moves towards healing. Important consideration for the play therapist is to address cultural differences is critical in family play therapy. Discussion on these strategies can be used for in person or via telehealth session. Case examples, videos and small break out rooms will be used to deepen the therapist’s learning.

- Describe the importance of having family play-based sessions.
- Describe how a family play-based session will flow based on the nervous system arousal (hypoarousal and hyperarousal) that arrives in the playroom.
- Identify how to address cultural difference in family play therapy session.
- List 10 Creative Interventions for family play therapy.
Instructor:
Rose LaPiere, LPC, RPT-S, ACS is in private practice in Sea Girt, NJ and has been working with children, adolescents and families for 20 years. She is a certified School Psychologist and has worked as a school counselor in K-12 school settings. Ms. LaPiere is a foundational Theraplay® practitioner. She has obtained many years of training in SandTray and SandPlay therapies and is certified in EMDR (consultant in training) and a Synergetic Play Therapist Supervisor. In private practice she works with children and families, specializing in the treatment of anxiety, ADHD, trauma, parent-child relationship, and adoption. Her work with families and children is grounded in Therapeutic Powers of Play, Neuroscience, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness, Contextual Family Therapy. Mrs. LaPiere is passionate about helping families integrate nature in their daily lives.
Mrs. LaPiere provides supervision for therapists, consultation with schools and training workshops for parents, teachers, and school counselors. She has been interviewed on several podcasts including Lessons in the Playroom Episode #67 Nature in the Playroom and Warriors at Work on How to Regulate Yourself in Times of Uncertainty”. Mrs. LaPiere has worked in public and private schools, community mental health agency, and intensive out-patient program. She is currently the president of NJCA Creativity division.
